Spam is the only offspring of Toga’s that we retained. His sister “Gusty” (II) went to Germany to create her own legacy and his other siblings went on to pet homes. One sister who was in a hunting home picked up Junior Hunter legs but never completed her title.
Spam showed talent and drive for hunting early on but did not have the quick-maturing and self-assured nature of his father. We had him steadied early on, maybe too soon. He disliked being forced to go to water and this made his title acquisitions a slow, dragged-out process. I have come to loathe dealing with water weenies!
He proceeded through Junior and Senior and finally achieved his MH in 2004.
In 2002 he completed his CD title in only a handful of trials. Later he also completed his agility Novice and Novice jumpers titles, again in very limited trialing, qualifying more often than not, and nearly always with first place in his class.
Spam is a fun dog to have around–always the clown when opportunity allows. He occasionally accompanied me to school where I taught elementary art and had proven to be a fine ambassador of the breed and my students’ favorite distraction. He also set an example for good behavior!
