As a child I had always had a passion for animals. My solitary hours were spent pouring over nature books, long walks in the woods, or over the drawing board sketching and painting birds and animals. I took an interest in purebred dogs at about the age of 10. I have been involved in English Cockers since 1976, and acquired my first dog, a blue roan bitch, in 1978. I concentrated on obedience with her and contented myself with studying the breed and considering what I’d do next. In my research I observed that there were few show breeders who put any importance on the hunting ability of their dogs, and that there were very, very few (show bred) English Cockers in the solid liver color to be found anywhere in the world, which I thought was a shame as it is a lovely color, particularly when the color is deep. My first dog was extremely birdy, talented and tenacious, if rather stubborn, and in retrospect would have been a fantastic gun dog given the chance. I determined that I would not cheat my dogs in the future and would give hunting ability equal weight to conformation in my breeding decisions.
Herein is my newly redesigned website, still under reconstruction at time of this posting (July 29, 2019). Regular visitors will find most of the familiar photos and essays, and there will be new ones added. I added a blog that will concentrate on my hunting and training endeavors and observations. I now also have the ability to include videos. Please drop by now and then to see what’s going on at Woodwyn!
